Classic Calabash Favorites at the Original Benjamin’s

There are dozens of seafood buffets on the Grand Strand, but there's only one "original" - Original Benjamin's Calabash Seafood Buffet.

Serving fresh, local seafood in Myrtle Beach for more than 30 years, Original Benjamin's introduced the area to Calabash-style cooking. Perfected in the nearby fishing village on the Carolina border, Calabash cuisine involves lightly battered, deep-fried seafood for most meat in a crispy crust.

Benjamin's is famous for serving fried local fish and shrimp, but those are only two of the popular choices on the 170-item spread that includes a made-to-order pasta station, an iced-down raw bar, a meat-carving station and an in-house bakery that prepares fresh breads and desserts daily.

But seafood is the main attraction, and Benjamin's has boat loads of it. In addition to the wide selection of fried, baked and grilled fish, shrimp and scallop combinations, Benjamin's also features a raw bar and crab station where diners can fill up on oysters, crab legs, mussels, clams and more.

Lowcountry classics like crab cakes and seafood pie are also on the lineup and “landfood” lovers also have a variety of choices, including prime rib, roast beef, and ham sliced fresh on the carving board. Fried chicken and spare ribs are among the many Southern-cooking classics, along with an amazing array of country vegetables and sides, such as mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese.

Benjamin's also offers a hot and cold bar designed specifically for children, featuring kid-friendly favorites chicken nuggets, pizza, pudding and ice cream. And the on-site bakery serves excellent desserts. The little ones can fill up on free refills while the adults enjoy a cold beer with dinner.

In addition to serving an endless supply of good food, Benjamin's also is home to an unofficial maritime museum. Featuring a dry sea aquarium and a large collection of model ships, Benjamin's gives its guests a crash course in nautical trivia and fishing records that will interest all ages.

The Original Benjamin's is located at 9593 North Kings Highway on Myrtle Beach's famed Restaurant Row. For more information, call 843-449-0821 or visit the website at http://www.originalbenjamins.com
