It might seem odd that the Alabama Theatre sits on the Carolina Coast, but not when you consider that the country music super-group by the same state name got its start in the honky-tonks of Myrtle Beach back in the 1970s.
The Country Music Hall of Fame band Alabama was the house act at the Bowery on Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach before going on to fame and fortune and the good ol' boys have not forgotten their roots. As a tribute to its humble beginnings on the Grand Strand roots, the group opened the Alabama Theatre at Barefoot Landing in 1993.
For two decades and counting, the Alabama Theatre has been home to some of the country's top touring musical and comedic acts like Willie Nelson, Vince Gill and Bill Cosby, as well as a solid lineup of critically acclaimed shows.
The award-winning "ONE: The Show," featuring outstanding singing, dancing, comedy and other performances wrapped into, well, one. The show undergoes constant changes and updates that keep audiences coming back year after year.
During the holiday season, the Alabama Theatre puts on "The South's Grandest Christmas Show," which has become an annual holiday tradition for locals and snowbirds alike. Featuring Christmas carols, dance numbers and a cameo appearance from Ol' St. Nick, this show is sure to get the biggest scrooge into the holiday spirit.
The Alabama Theatre also plays host to some of music's brightest stars, including Barbara Streisand, Paul McCartney and Rod Stewart, and bands like The Eagles, The Four Tops and The Temptations.
